The purpose of this test is to measure the ability to hold a configuration in mind despite distraction as indicated by the capacity to see a given figure which is “hidden” or embedded in a larger, more complex drawing.

Closure Flexibility (Concealed Figures) is a paper-and-pencil test which can be administered individually or to groups. The test booklet contains one page of direction, (including one sample item and one practice exercise) and seven pages of test items (49 items). Each item consists of a figure, presented on the left of the page, followed by a row of four, more complex, drawing to the right. Some of these four drawings contain the given figure in its original size and orientation. Instructions are to look for the original figure in each of the complex drawings and to put a check mark under each drawing which contains it and a zero under each that does not.

The Closure Flexibility (Concealed Figures) test can be used as an individual test or as part of a selection test battery. Its greatest application to date has been as part of a managerial and professional test battery designed for incumbents or applicants for 12 key higher-level positions in organizations, including line employees, professionals, sales and technical employees.
