This test can help screen and select skilled industrial personnel. It can be helpful in the selection, promotion and career counseling of higher- level personnel.

Since it is relatively culture-free and is not influenced by facility in language, it is fair to people who have not had much formal education, who are not accustomed to taking tests, or who are not familiar with paper-and-pencil activity. Since low scores on a verbal reasoning test may be contaminated by non-intelligence factors (e.g., years of education, familiarity with verbal activity, etc.), a non-verbal test serves as a check on these other factors when the results for the two types of tests are compared.

This assessment was originally a part of the Science Research Associates (SRA), assessment lineup, a subsidy of IBM. The ownership then changed as follows over the years and became London House, then Reid London House, then Pearson Reid London House, then Vangent, then General Dynamics IT, and finally Fifth Theory.

This, and other related assessments, went off market around 2018 and is no longer being published or available for purchase.
