The Personality Research Form measures 22 personality traits relevant to the normal functioning of individuals in a wide variety of situations.  It is useful in a wide range of settings, including employee selection, sports psychology, and in clinics.

Description: The PRF is designed to yield scores for personality traits relevant to the functioning of individuals in a wide variety of situations. Based to a large extent upon Murray’s framework for the description of personality, the PRF focuses on areas of normal functioning rather than psychopathology. Five forms of the test are available. Form E, the most popular form, contains 22 scales comprised of 352 True-False items. Test completion generally requires 45 minutes. Items were selected on the basis of simplicity of wording, content saturation, and interscale independence through use of an algorithm for minimum redundancy item analysis. The manual contains norms from the sixth grade through high school and college. Scales on Form E include: Abasement, Achievement, Affiliation, Aggression, Autonomy, Change, Cognitive Structure, Defendence, Dominance, Endurance, Exhibition, Harm Avoidance, Impulsivity, Nurturance, Order, Play, Sentience, Social Recognition, Succorance, Understanding, Infrequency, Desirability.

Reliability and Validity: Considerable attention was devoted to the development of test forms combining a concise, convenient format with the properties of reliability, substantive generalizability, and validity. Unusually extensive item pools were developed which were subsequently edited carefully for substantive cogency, representativeness, freedom from various forms of bias, and interscale independence. Both internal consistency and test-retest reliability coefficients are reported in the manual. The manual cites unique evidence for convergent and discriminant validity using peer ratings and hundreds of studies bearing on the validity and usefulness of the Personality Research Form in a very wide variety of settings.

Qualification Level B: Tests may only be purchased by individuals with:

A Master’s degree in psychology, education, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, social work, or in a field closely related to the intended use of the assessment, and formal training in the ethical administration, scoring, and interpretation of clinical assessments.

Certification by or full active membership in a professional organization such as the Canadian Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (CASLPA), the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT), the Ontario Association of Consultants, Counsellors, Psychometrics and Psychotherapists (OACCPP), or other North American organizations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), the American Counselling Association (ACA), the American Educational Research Association (AERA), the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), the National Council on Measurement in Education (NCME), the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) or the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), that requires training and experience in the relevant area of assessment.

A degree or license to practice in the healthcare or allied healthcare field.

Or

Formal, supervised mental health, speech/language, occupational therapy, and/or educational training specific to assessing children, or in infant and child development, and formal training in the ethical administration, scoring, and interpretation of clinical assessments.
