The Split Screen Typing Tests are timed tests designed to measure a candidate’s speed and accuracy in typing.  This test measures a candidate’s speed and accuracy in typing text presented on the computer screen. This test calculates a score based on the total number of keystrokes, time taken, and number of errors made when typing six passages. The Split Screen Typing Test uses the following method to determine the Net Words Per Minute score: Net Words Per Minute = ((Gross Words Per Minute * Time Taken) – Total Errors) / Time Taken

There are four different forms of typing test. Each form contains a different passage. Three forms of the typing assessments allow the candidates 5 minutes to type passages into a simulated word processing document. Candidates will need a printed text original for this type of evaluation. In the fourth form, the text original is displayed directly above the area in which the candidate types a response. The candidate will not need a printed original for the evaluation. The reading level of these assessments range from the 10th to 12th grades.

Speeded & Timed:

  • Typing Test 1, 2, and 3: 5 minute time limit. The candidate is not expected to complete the passage.
  • Split Screen: 6 minute time limit (1 minute per question) The candidate is not expected to complete each passage.
