The PSI® is a group of tests that measure a variety of areas. The descriptions and scales appear below. A scale is a group of items or questions that measure a specific attitude and provides an independent score for that area. Depending on the PSI® version you use, your PSI® contains from three to 10 scales. Employers can use information from these scales to determine the acceptability of an applicant for the position being filled.

See the PSI® Chart, PDF 29kb.

Your PSI® will contain one or more of the following scales:

Honesty - The Honesty Scale assesses the likelihood that the individual will not engage in workplace theft.

Nonviolence - The Nonviolence Scale measures the likelihood that an applicant is not prone to violent behavior

Drug Avoidance - The Drug Avoidance Scale measures the likelihood that the applicant will not sell or use illegal drugs on the job.

Tenure or Job Commitment - The Tenure or Job Commitment Scale measures the likelihood that the applicant will not quit after a short period of time.

2. The Validity/Accuracy Scale determines if the applicant both understood the inventory and carefully completed it.

Employability Index - The Employability Index is a composite score that provides a quick reference to the applicant's overall suitability for hire.
